Working Bee

One of the things I like most about Stampin' Up! is that it is a vehicle to help others.

Last week we had a working bee to restock footprint cards for the Gold Coast Hospital.  These cards are used to record the footprints and premmie babies as a keep sake for parents and grandparents.

I am grateful to my customers and team who cut, die cut, glued and sewed these cards.

We also took the opportunity to make some Father's Day treat boxes and cards which will be delivered to Meals On Wheels to hand out.

I love that the cards say "Happy Father's Day Handsome"!

Here are the pillow boxes, now 'stuffed' with choccies!

If you live on the Gold Coast and would like to be part of my classes or service projects, you are welcome to come along!

Don't forget that it's Sale-a-Bration time!

This means that you can get FREE stuff for every $90 you spend and there are also some higher value items that you can claim with a $180 spend!  Yippee.

You can view the SAB catalogue HERE.

I am happy to help you with any orders you would like to place.  You can email me at wheatonanna@hotmail.com or phone me on 041 6022766.

Fabulous Christmas Charity Day

In Saturday we had a super successful stamping day.  Our Christmas Charity Workshop is an annual event which raises money for the Gold Coast University Hospital, John Flynn Hospital and Gold Coast Private Hospital.

Our guests made a  variety of projects using the Hearts Come Home stamp set.

Our welcome table held everyone's bags with their kits inside.

We had a fantastic display of cards and 3D items to inspire everyone for Christmas!

Stampin' Up! donate a box of goodies for our raffle.  This takes our fundraising total through the roof!  Caroline did a great job setting these out.  The white board was a perfect back drop.

Caroline is pictured with my hubby who sold raffle tickets, along with my son.  Blake and Zac also help set up all the tables and chairs for me!

And we were off and racing!  That's me at my table with my ladies!

Don't mess with Angela and her brayer!

Jenny in deep concentration!

The best part of the day is that people have a chance to get together and craft...

The event is held at Nadene's church.  They are so wonderful in helping us and giving is the space for free.

Jennifer was able to bring along her mum Frances.

The kitchen was run by Marg and Dawn.  Nanna Marg is undergoing chemo AND able to prepare our lunches!

Thanks Angela for organising some flowers for me at the end!  She is my FIXER, RIGHT HAND LADY and everything in between!  She is a no nonsense team member who thinks for me when my brain is full and gets stuck in to get things DONE!  I missed the opportunity to get a photo of her vacuuming at the end!

All up we raised $1166.

This will be used for
  • maintaining our footprint card boxes at Gold Coast University Hospital, John Flynn Hospital and Gold Coast Private Hospital.
  • maintaining our craft kit boxes at John Flynn Hospital and hopefully expanding this program
  • contributing to Gold Coast University Hospital's Children's Memory Day which will be held on November 18th 2017.  Our contribution will help with catering for this event.
  • mother/baby books at John Flynn - this is a new project that we have been asked to help with!  I have made two for a fast track request but we will be having a working bee to make more some time soon.

I will keep you posted with pics and receipts of where your generous donations are going.

Thanks again to everyone who helped to prepare and run this event.  It really is a team effort!

Thanks for stopping by!  Pics of the projects to come!

Footprint Cards Update

Just a quick post to let you know how our Footprint Cards and Hospital Boxes are going...

Our Footprint Cards at Gold Coast University Hospital need restocking.  They are preferring the pink and blue cards and fortunately I had some ready made, from our last session.

These are heading off in the post!

We are getting a box of the cards organised for Gold Coast Private Hospital also.  I have packaged up a box of all the bits and pieces for one of my wonderful customers Linda, who is going to cut and assemble 60 cards for me.  I have included a sample and some scratchy instructions.  Thanks Linda!

At John Flynn we are providing Footprint Cards and Hospital Boxes, containing all the bits needed for making a card.  Two of my customers, Jan and Allison volunteer to go along and work with the patients to make the cards.  Recently we designed a box to make bookmarks which has proved very popular so we created another box with a more masculine theme for making masculine bookmarks.  The stamp set was donated by Anne, another of my generous customers.

These boxes are all stocked using funds that you help raise when you come to our Annual Christmas Charity Workshop which usually occurs in October.

Thanks for all that you do to help these causes.

If you would like to help another great cause, we are having another charity day, this time to help the Cancer Council.

We already have about 20 people booked in and it is a guaranteed fun day!  If you would like to come along, please let me know.

Thanks for stopping by and thanks again for supporting these great causes.

Footprint Cards Update

One of my customers emailed me to say that she had watched Gold Coast Medical on Channel 7 last night.  Our footprint cards had shown up!

A young couple were expecting their second baby but sadly their first baby, Leo, had died when he was only a day old.  Their memories of their short time with him were very important to them.  One memory was a frame including Leo's hand and foot prints which hangs in the bedroom that is ready for their second baby.

I watched the show online and took this screen shot.  Those blue butterfly pieces were made by you!

Thanks so very much to everyone who contributes to this cause, either by attending our annual Christmas Charity Day at Genesis or by helping to make the cards.  The story was a sad one but it was clear that the memory making was an important process in the healing.

You can view the January 8th episode online through the Plus7 app.

Thanks for stopping by!

Christmas Charity Day at Genesis

Happy November!

The last Saturday of October was the day for our annual Christmas Charity Workshop at Genesis Church.

Thirty-two ladies and 7 demonstrators (also ladies) came together to create Christmas projects and raise money for our footprints program.

This is the fabulous team that got it all organised - plenty of preparation went on ahead of time to cut and package the kits and make samples (in quadruple time!)

We had five tables working on the projects.

And the wonderful Nanna Marg working in the kitchen with Lee.

What a wonderful spread they created - this is just morning tea!!

Each year Stampin' Up! donates a HUGE box of products for our raffle.  There were five main prizes - boxes of goodies!

And heaps of other prizes.

We had a fabulous display of Christmas cards and projects!

Our welcome bags....

Our raffle raised a grand total of.........$912!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was the result of raffle proceeds and the generosity of Genesis who donated the food and venue portion of the budget back to us.

What is the money used for?

We now have footprint cards in three sections of the Gold Coast University Hospital, a box at John Flynn, and the Gold Coast Private Hospital is ready to receive a box also.
These cards are used to record the footprints of still born and premmie babies so that parents and grandparents have a quality keepsake to take home.

We also have set up craft boxes for patients at John Flynn.  These boxes contain all the materials for them to make a card whilst recuperating in hospital.

I will keep you posted when we have sessions to restock these boxes.

Thanks to everyone who came along and helped with this wonderful event and contributed in many different ways.

Thanks for stopping by!  I will post the projects in a future post!

Special Delivery and an Easter project

Last Wednesday I drove to John Flynn Hospital to deliver our card making kits.  These were assembled using the money we raised at the Christmas Charity Workshop last year.  Seven ladies helped to assemble them which I wrote about in this post HERE.

Liz is the volunteer co-ordinator at John Flynn and she is very enthusiastic to receive our help.  Here is the lovely Liz with two of the kits.  Thanks Liz!!

Late last year we  provided John Flynn with a Footprint Cards Kit.  Liz presented us with a letter of thanks from the hospital.

Dear Ms Wheaton

I am writing to express my appreciation of your donation to our Maternity Unit at John Flynn Private Hospital.  Your donation of foot and handprint cards for our deceased and premature babies is appreciated.  Thank you to the kind volunteers who assist you in putting these beautiful kits together for our families.

Our volunteer coordinator has expressed her appreciation in your enthusiasm to assist with volunteer projects to commence in 2016 namely card scrapbooking sessions for our rehabilitation patients.  On behalf of John Flynn Private Hospital, thank you for your generosity.

Diann Sapwell
Director of Clinical Services

Thanks to all the ladies who have helped to assemble Footprint cards and Card Making Kits.  It's a team of willing people who make this possible!  More sessions to come.

How are your Easter projects going?  One of my favourite demonstrators is Becky Roberts of Inking Idaho.  I love her projects and often they take my breath away.  I love this tag design with a cute little bunny and I have made it up into kits for my stamp club girls this month.  A bunny tag on a bunny tag kit.

Don't forget that Sale-a-Bration finishes at the end of the month.  What does this MEAN???

  • Last chance to get a freebee with each $90 spend
  • Last chance to join up for $169 and get $295 of product (I have lots of ladies taking up this offer!)
  • Last chance to get extra freebees when you host a party
Contact me if you would like more information!

Thanks for stopping by!
