Convention Swap Tutorial

I posted my Convention swap picture way back but promised to blog the steps.

Here is the swap to remind you.  They hold a little Dove chocolate held in place with a Dimensional.

Cut a piece of card stock 15 cm x 4.3 cm.

Using the Simply Scored scoring tool, score the card stock at 2.6 cm and 6 cm from one end.

Flip the card stock around and do the same score lines from the other end.

Using the Blossom Punch, insert your card stock in to the punch from the bottom.  It's tricky to thread the card stock in the right place, so to make it easier, insert a piece of scrap paper into the punch from the 'normal' direction.

Remove the scrap paper and line up your card  stock so that the first score line is just touching a cutting 'prong' on each side.  Punch out to leave two petals on the end of your card stock.

Do the same to the other end.

Trim off the little pointy bit on either side of the two petals.

Cut a slit along one of the flower score lines to the midway point.  Do the same on the other end, but coming from the opposite direction/side of the card stock.  I have marked these lines in pen in the photo below.

At this point, you might like to put your piece of card through one of the Embossing Folders, depending on how you want to decorate it.

Fold score lines and overlap the slot in each end to link them into a four petal flower.

Decorate as desired.

Santa Tag tutorial

This week's class was Christmas tags.  We made a mix of styles including some for Santa fans.  I have seen many variations of this design on the net so here is my version.

Isn't he cute?  Want to know how to make him?  I'll do my best to show you....Scroll on down.

I started with a 7cm by 7cm square of Real Red card stock and a quarter of a sheet of Whisper White A4 which I had run through the Big Shot using the Polka Dot TEF.

Then I gathered these punches:  the Ornament Punch, the Bird Builder Punch, the 4.4 cm Circle Punch, the Extra-Large Oval Punch, and a school punch (I think everyone has one of these to punch holes for ring binders). Also used, but not in the photo was the 1.3 cm cirlce punch.

First punch a 4.4 cm circle out of a light coloured card (I used Blush Blossom, but it is now retired). Snail this onto your Real Red cardstock, slightly higher than halfway.

Punch an Ornament Punch from your Polka Dot Whisper White and snip off the top.  Snail this (gently, so you don't squash the dots) onto your circle. (I've left the top of the ornament there to show you what to snip.)

So you'll end up with this.

Using the Bird Builder Punch, punch out one wing from your Polka Dots then turn the card stock over to punch another wing.

One wing with the cardstock this way (bumps upwards)...

And then one with the cardstock this way (bumps downwards)

These are your two moustache pieces.  A dimensional will fit on the back of each one to give the face a bit of depth.  The nose is out with the 1.3 cm Circle Punch (which I left out of my punch picture!)  It's also attached with a dimensional...because noses stick out a little don't they?  His eyes are punched out of Basic Black using a school/binder punch and stuck on with a 2-Way Glue Pen.

His hat is made using the Extra Large Oval.  First, punch and take a chunk out of your Whisper White Polka Dots.
You don't need the bit you just punched out but you need the curve it has left behind.

Move your punch up to take a 'bite' out, so that you have a piece with two curved edges.  Don't make it too skinny- Santa's hat need to be warm and woolly.



Punch out a pom pom from the Whisper White Polka Dot, using the 1.3 cm circle punch.

Attach the hat and the pom pom to your tag, again using dimensionals.  I find it looks best if your pom pom is attached to meet the pointy part at the side of the hat.

 So there he is.  If you don't have the exact punches experiment a bit with the shapes that you do have.

Two-Step Bird Punch Christmas Wreath

This Christmas wreath is made using the branch from the Two-Step Bird Punch.  Wanna know how to get an even circle?

Christmas Wreath Tutorial

1. You will need Two-Way Glue, the Two-Step Bird Punch, Dotto (removeable adhesive) and a large circle punch:  I used the 1 3/4" punch.

2.  Using the circle punch, punch out a circle in contrasting scrap card. Adhere it to your card front, using Dotto.

3.  Punch out 8 branches in two colours of green - I used Old Olive and Certain Celery.  Using the Two-Way Glue Pen, adhere your first branch, lining it up with the edge of the circle.  See how the edge of the leaf and the edge of the branch are the same distance from the circle?  Make sure each branch you glue on has the same placement. (8 branches is my gestimate for this size circle.  You will need to experiment a bit to work out the spacing)

4. Continue using the circle as a guide as you line up each branch around it, using alternating colours.  Be consistent with where you place the top of your next branch in relation to the bottom of the one before.

5. When you add the last couple of branches, trim the stem so that they do not cover the leaves of the first branch.

6. Peel off your circle. Any Dotto that remains on your card can be rubbed off using your finger.

Your Christmas Wreath is now ready to decorate.  For the berries, I added small circles punched out using a 'school' hole punch and then adhered them with a Two-Way Glue Pen which allows really accurate placement of glue.  The sentiment is from Occasional Greetings.
