Vellum

One of my customers showed me a card similar to this that she had bought at a market stall.

Edited to add:  I have since found out that the original creator of this card is Linda Higgins.  She showed us the card at Convention!

I loved the vellum flower and thought the design perfect for my velum class this week.  The card I CASEd was in bright colours but I chose to use Crumb Cake and Whisper White.

  • The card is cut using the biggest die in the Ovals Collections Framelits.  I folded the cardstock in half and cut through the two layers on the fold.
  • I used the next sized oval for the white layer.
  • The flower is created with white embossing powder which comes up so beautifully on the vellum.
  • Crumb Cake seam binding adds the finishing touches.

Faux Tiling

Today, I would like to show you another fun card we did at the Australia's Biggest Afternoon Tea using the Simply Scored tool.

I am enjoying using this fun tool and it is so easy to create unique effects on your cards.

The card below uses the faux tiling technique.  The square of Whisper White is scored with lines 1.5 cm apart, then turned 90 degrees and scored again to create a grid pattern.  With the indented side facing up, the card is then stamped on.  The ink will 'miss' the indented lines, creating a tiled effect.

Not bad huh?  Although we did not do an 'inside' for this card at the make and take, I sponged and stamped a square to go inside when I assembled the leftovers.

Stamps:  Elements of Style, Apothecary Art
Card:  Cherry Cobbler, Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze, Whisper White
Ink:  Cherry Cobbler, Not Quite Navy, Baja Breeze
Tools:  Big Shot, Labels Collection Framelits die, Simply Scored Scoring Tool, 1" Circle Punch, Scallop Square Bigz die

If you would like a demonstration of the Simply Scored tool, why not come to one of my classes, or book a class or a party in your own home.

Just Add Ink Challenge 102

If you are stuck for ideas for creating cards, there are plenty of challenge blogs on the net.  It's fun to try a challenge once in awhile to take you outside your comfort zone!  One site I like to visit is Just Add Ink.  This year, I hope to enter a few more of their challenges!  (I entered only one last year!)

This week's challenge is Just Add Kathy Tanner.  Challenge participants visit Kathy's blog, choose a card and CASE it.  This is the card created by Kathy that I chose.

I loved the one little brad in the corner and the tiny tags on the bow.  The red butterfly in the centre also caught my eye.  Here is my version.

Kathy used some Smooch Spritz on the swirly underneath panel.  I used Shimmer Paint Spray.  You can juuuust see it in the picture below....or maybe not.

Pop on over to Just Add Ink to see the other entries.

Stampin' Up! Stampin' Write Markers

At a recent demonstration a lady who had won some Stampin' Write Markers in our raffle asked me to show their uses.  I demonstrated the card below, applying ink straight to the stamp with the markers.  Love this flourish from Elements of Style.

Our markers have two ends:  a brush tip end and a fine end.  The brush tip is fantastic for applying ink straight to the stamp and on this card, I used the fine end to draw the border around the card.

Each marker can be bought individually, or they are available in sets according to their colour families.

Stamps:  Elements of Style, Thank You Kindly

Introducing...the new In Colors

Come September, Stampin' Up! will introduce five new In Colors to complement the rest of the colour range.  All five a just beautiful!  Thought I would give you a sample of what they are like.

In all these samples, the card base, the top butterfly and the sentiment are done in the new colour.  The card style is inspired by Kirsty Brown.

First up... Calypso Coral which I have teamed with Peach Parfait.

These butterflies are put together using the Big Shot Beautiful Butterflies die and the Embosslits beautiful wings die.

Next up Wisteria Wonder - I have been hoping for a lavendar shade to be introduced.  This one I have teamed with Concord Crush.  Yummeeee.

Do you like the flourish?  One of our free stamp sets from Convention was Creative Elements.  I love this delicate touch.

Another In Color:  Lucky Limeade.  Remember Kiwi Kiss?  This new colour reminds me very much of that old favourite.

I have added some Stick on Basic Pearls for a touch of elegance.

Pool Party is a light subtle colour which I have teamed with Tempting Turquoise, one of our Brights.

And last but not least, Island Indigo, contrasting below with Bashful Blue.

The For You sentiment is from the Elements of Style stamp set and is punched out with a 1" circle punch.

Stay tuned for more sneak peeks.

If you are interested in seeing more samples from the new catalogue, I am having a launch at my house at the beginning of September.  Email me for more details.  Can't come but want a new catalogue?  I can have one ready to mail to you on September 1st.  Cost is $12.95 including postage.  Contact me for more details.

Thanks for visiting!

Another CASE

Another wonderful blog I visit for inspiration belongs to Carrie Gaskin,  a Canadian SU! demonstrator (because we all know how wonderful Canadians are, don't we?)  She has an unusual style that is very eye catching.  I saw this design and wanted to try it out using a different stamp set.   I have just purchased Elements of Style which has been on my wish list forever, so I tried my own interpretation.  I loved her colour choices so I stuck with them.

The background swirl is done using clear embossing powder.

Stamps:  Elements of Style
Card:  More Mustard, Cherry Cobbler, Neutrals DSP Paper Patterns Stack
Ink:  Versamark, Cherry Cobbler, Basic Black
Tools:  Decorative Label Punch
Accessories:  Vintage Trinkets (my fave)
